A 12 year old dark rum from Ron Abuelo of Panama. They age their rum in whiskey barrels, which adds a distinct vanilla sweetness. This 12 year old was launched in 2009, and is elegant, slightly smoky and rich. It was awarded a Gold at the 2009 Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition.
Buttery toffee notes with hints of caramel and citrus. Molasses... Dates...
Thick and creamy, with notes of spice, toasted oak, herbs and dark brown sugar.
Good finish with cinnamon and oak.
My first Abuelo, but it won't be my last. An absolutely gorgeous dark sipping rum. Not over sweet, smooth, with hints of vanilla and toffee. It will be my go to dark rum.
Frankly, I think Ive actually found the nicest Rum ever made…. I don’t think it can be bettered… it’s got everything….. it’s smooth….creamy……very lightly smokey….. fruity….. in particular dried fruity…… like figs, raisins, dates all mushed into one almighty fruity taste…… it’s more than a note….just the right amount of ethanol burn….. intensely sweet…. Mildly salty….. mildly peppery…..It leaves a fantastic combination of all the above flavours on your palate that linger wonderfully…… it’s perfection in a glass….. perfection that’s been harnessed in white oak whisky barrels for 12 long years in Panamanian tropical conditions…… this expression is quite simply…the best…. Have a lovely evening ??????Life is Rumderful
Very nice indeed, great for sipping and very smooth, a real find A+
Extremely smooth, slightly oaky with nice vanilla background, as well as light cherry aromas. Much more Rich than most rums but goes down extremely smoothly with a small amount of ice and has a fantastic lingering sweet and aromatic aftertaste
I'm not an experienced taster, but I agree with the flavor of dates, and the first flavors I got were a burnt toffee mixed with a woody flavor (oak?). To me, the fruit is dark -- more like plum or prune. And I didn't get the full molasses aroma until the glass had been sitting for a few minutes after the rum was gone -- then it was obvious!
