Pyrat (pronounced 'pirate') XO Reserve is an orange-forward Caribbean spirit made with rums aged for up to 15 years (although most will of course have been aged for less time). The bottle is based on the design of those kept by ship captains and pirates during the 19th Century.
Very citrussy. So much orange peel. Icing sugar, waves of fruit. Perhaps a little cough sweet note too.
Sweet, viscous, more orange. Marmalade.
Molasses, orange peels, marmalade, spice.
Like an incredible rum old-fashioned.
Quite possibly the worst rum I have ever attempted to drink. Horrendous orange peel/pith taste that refuses to leave. Would rather drink 6 ounces of Cointreau or triple sec then a sip of this.
Orange peel is a good call but it's more of a bitter orange peel. Both the palate and the nose share the same. Not impressed at all for this price range. El Dorado is much better.
This was a gateway rum for me. I wasn't much of a rum drinker till my best friend told me this tasted like oranges. He wasn't lying. Now I've tried tons of spiced rums and I love them. Great rum for old fashioneds (Try 3 little birds in Brixton if you don't believe me). There is a few people are really sour about this rum, I can't think why.
I've been looking for THE best bottle of rum for a dear person in my life. He's a retired Marine and deserves nothing but the best. I've been to all the liquor stores I can get someone to give me a ride to since I don't have a vehicle. Thank goodness I'm not a pirate or I'd certainly be in trouble! ? I digress....so at every liquor store I've gone to, this Pyrat rum has been the hands down recommendation! I haven't actually tasted it yet but I can't wait to get some this weekend and try it with my favorite Marine/Pirate.
This is just awesome. I do have a collection of rum and this makes my guests ooze with lavish praise for all occasions!
