A superb-looking decanter bottle of XO rum from Barbados, aged in bourbon barrels before being shipped to France for a secondary maturation in Cognac casks from the Ferrand house. The result is a well balanced rum with a remarkably long finish, with a palate of chocolate, banana, coconut and mango. Now this is some very good stuff.
Hints of spicy oak on the nose, with guava, a little desiccated coconut and dried banana. Buttery.
Spiced, creamy palate entry, with sweet vanilla notes and caramel. Oaky spices.
Caramel. Toasted oak.

This stuff is really special. Unlike any other rum I've tried. A totally unique flavour profile. Like caramelised bananas and magic. At first I was reluctant to put it in a cocktail because it's so special, but it makes the most amazing Daiquiri.
Very palatable rum, slight sweetness and very smooth, easy to drink straight. Imagine it would work well in rum based cocktail but that might be a waste!
Not as good as advertised taste wise for a sipper but looks great/ fantastic on the shelf and I do like a good bottle on the shelf. It just lacks in flavor and really lacks length. The initial smell and sweet notes are nice. For experiment purpose I tried mixers. I tried coke. I tried ginger ale. I tried lemonade. I tried ice. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES buy this to mix. It's lost completely and entirely. The best enjoyment of it was sipping a ginger ale in-between.
Probably my worst tasting experience, all I can get is disgusting and unfortunatelly lingering taste of cheap ethanol and some artificial coconut sweetness. No balance,no reason to torture myself with another sip. Plantation makes some excellent stuff but this one is just big big failure.
I received a bottle for Christmas and I don’t want to drink anything else!!!
