A superb-looking decanter bottle of XO rum from Barbados, aged in bourbon barrels before being shipped to France for a secondary maturation in Cognac casks from the Ferrand house. The result is a well balanced rum with a remarkably long finish, with a palate of chocolate, banana, coconut and mango. Now this is some very good stuff.
Hints of spicy oak on the nose, with guava, a little desiccated coconut and dried banana. Buttery.
Spiced, creamy palate entry, with sweet vanilla notes and caramel. Oaky spices.
Caramel. Toasted oak.

this was the one that won me over, the layers of flavour are excelent and the mouth feel is lush. certainly go back to this for all special occasions.
Exquisite, gifted a bottle at Christmas and it is beautiful
Matched description and tasted wonderful
I read good review after good review for this rum and I have to say it doesn't live up to my hIgh expectations. It’s a very fruity rum on the nose and on the taste with an over riding taste of coconut, almost as if in the blend one of the rums was actually a coconut rum like Malibou or the likes. Now don't get me wrong, I like a smooth rum but it’s so smooth there’s almost no burn at all until the very finish, where the burn is not worth mentioning… a bit like Bumbu Rum in that way… it’s almost like drinking a non alcoholic rum. The marketing talks of the 20 years anniversary of blending for their highly acclaimed master blender Alexander Gabriel hence the name of the bottle ‘Plantation XO 20 year anniversary’ but I personally don't see this as the best works as a result of 20 years + blending, I simply don’t, there’s no argument it’s a beautifully smooth fruity, coconut style rum…… would I buy another bottle? Definitely not! Would I be happy if somebody bought it me as a gift? I’d be quietly disappointed… there are so many more rums out there priced around £52 that are much better.
On the nose it's very bready and buttery, there's a pastry like aroma, alongside bananas and maple syrup. Very sweet, tropical fruitiness along with a yeasty, bready sensation. Very nice indeed. Very rich and smooth in the mouth, almost creamy. There's a little spicy tingle on the tongue with a deep vanilla sweetness. A cinnamon topped creme brulee springs to mind. The finish is medium in length, the vanilla turning to a fudgy toffee and then the banana comes back. A superb sipping rum, easy on the palate and would also be delicious poured over vanilla ice cream.
