Another tasty expression from Mount Gay, XO Triple Cask Blend is a blend of pot and column still rums. After resting in a combination of American whiskey, bourbon and Cognac casks, it's then blended and bottled at 43% ABV. We've heard it's rather nice paired with a large coconut ice cube if you've got one handy.
Clove-studded orange, a dusting of cocoa, lychee and salted caramel.
Rich and fruity with banana loaf and pineapple, and darker notes of currants join waves of vanilla, roasted nuts, a touch of clove, and earthy tea.
Creamy waves of vanilla, pastel de nata, and coffee, with boozy cherries, dried mango, lychee, salted caramel, and clove-studded orange.
Peaches, apricots, vanilla, oak char, and balanced chilli flake warmth.
$32.73 - $72.98
If I had to choose between this and plantation XO I would have to get both !
excellent lovely rum, smooth how they all should be - always enjoying a glass of this stuff
Although the new XO has the characteristic Mount Gay, unsweetened rum flavor of the old XO, this new version has no punch and the flavor sort of dies on the palate rather than linger. A very disappointing finish, to say the least. Of course, if you never had the privilege of tasting the original XO, it's hard to explain why the change is so disappointing. And I really don't understand why so many fellow travelers haven't noticed the the drop-off in quality. I guess it's just one of those things. Emotionally I feel like giving this a '2', but in fairness, the nose is still very delightful, and the initial 1 or 2 seconds of flavor is quite decent. But the "collapse of the 'flave' packet" (apologies to all who got that reference and the one fast approaching) represents a quantum let-down that I can't ignore.
Classic rum. My favourite MGR. Drink neat with a little bit of ice.
It's like the Mount Gay Eclipse, but not available in Morrisons and so much better. Quite good with a bit of cheesecake, but that's just my opinion. My entirely correct opinion that is MUCH more correct than yours. Which is also correct but mine is better. You should get some, if only because the bottle is pretty cool. Oh! It tastes pretty nice too, I guess.
