Distilled in Barbados, this expression from Mount Gay was named for the 'double phenomenon' of a total solar eclipse and the passage of Halley's comet in 1910.
The nose is full and rounded with notes of fresh flowers and honey, a little vanilla and tropical fruit. The palate is fruity and well-rounded with notes of banana, vanilla, smoke, toasty oak, spice. The finish is long and spiced with toasty oak.
Anyone buying this rum and expecting a sipping rum (as I presume the above reviewer did) is going to be disappointed. The clue should have been "It was really cheap at Asda ><). As a mixing rum (cocktails, etc.) this rum really shines - it has enough flavour to cut through other ingredients. Also, if you spice it... Yum

I ordered about 60 pounds worth of run samples from mom but I still needed a little rum fix before they arrived so I went and picked this up at a supermarket. its a cheap rum, but it doesn't really taste that cheap, its not going to change your world, if you want a rum that will then Zafra 21 or El Dorado 21 is the place to go. For a cheapy tho, you can mix it, or cook with it, and it sips quite nicely neat floral brown sugar on the nose, and sweet creamy molasses on the palate, not so complex but enjoyable.
I bought this as it was damn cheap at Asda. Expecting a decent experience to educate my palate. Far from it! Neat, it smells of paint stripper, typical sugary rum smell and that is it. Only way to get a decent nose is to add so much water (3-5 teaspoons) it ruins the true flavor, neat is just harsh. So I would say as a sipper this is a no no. As a mixer it is different though the general sweetness of mixers marries well and takes the edge off and makes for a different and almost premium mixer. Don't get me wrong for such a cheap price I shouldnt have expected much however a rum at a similar price of OVD which is a beautiful sipper to me shouldn't taste so harsh!Enjoy as a mixer, please!
Soft, sweety-sour, warming, but... nothing special to mention. Almost total mediocricy.
