Matugga Golden Rum is made using sugar cane molasses produced in East Africa, using canes grown in rich, red soils. The rum is distilled in copper pot stills in the UK, and enjoys its maturation in English oak casks, resulting in evocative, juicy notes of tropical fruit. The Matugga range was introduced in mid-2015.
Brilliant rum! Nice smoky tasty!
Outstanding stuff. Ignore the "lethal" review below, this is a proper Jamaican pot still style rum made with East African molasses. That alone sets it miles ahead of those well known high-street brands referred to. Proper strong rummy flavour - a bit of smoke and very juicy. If you like Hampden Estate or other Pot Still rums, this is definitely one to add to your drinks cabinet. Alternatively, seek out their "Mavuno" acacia cask iteration for something truly unique and incredible.
This is a distinctive rum that deserves to be sipped on its own or with a block of ice so can really appreciate. Smoky, but quite enjoyed that. Very surprising find.
I was given a bottle for Xmas but somebody else opened and tasted it before me - luckily they did as I was advised to take only a sip. I've never tasted anything like it before and am aghast to find that it costs nearly £40. If you like rum - and I thought I did - then buy a bottle (or two) of the well-known "high-street" brands. Now I need to find something palatable to mix with the Matugga, otherwise the bottle might "accidently" be broken when I move home soon.
Absolutely loved it, not your usual rum flavour. There is a lot more going on.
