Kraken Spiced Rum is an excellent example of spiced rum, with utterly brilliant packaging! This was launched in the UK in early 2010, and it has an extraordinarily rich, spicy flavour. Named for the legendary sea monster, Kraken is a blend of Caribbean rums that should certainly suit any fans of rich, navy-style rum.
Spicy and rich with notes of vanilla and toffee apples. Hints of lime and cinnamon too.
Dark, rich palate. Thick with molasses and tar, and a barrage of cinnamon, golden syrup, nutmeg and charred oak.
Long, very spicy finish.
With all it's complexity, I really enjoy this more in a mixed drink. Ginger beer, Hurricanes, Coke, etc. Won't ever do as a straight shot again.... *shiver*... That being said, I really enjoy everything this has to offer for the price. Definitely more bang for what you pay.
With its caramel notes, it may come across as a bit too sweet for some but at least has good character, drinks well on its own and is amazing mixed as well, unlike lamb's rum or sailor jerry's (which to be fair is just a brand boasting blandness) which has to be mixed to hide the roughness. This is the rum that truly got me into loving the black spirit. Only appletons or pink pidgeon do i rate higher, but only just
Rubbish the star is a mistake can't give it away to any rum drinkers may be OK for non pirates
Bought through Amazon on spec cos I liked the bottle and my god what a suprise, deffo going to buy a lot more of this
