Kraken Spiced Rum is an excellent example of spiced rum, with utterly brilliant packaging! This was launched in the UK in early 2010, and it has an extraordinarily rich, spicy flavour. Named for the legendary sea monster, Kraken is a blend of Caribbean rums that should certainly suit any fans of rich, navy-style rum.
Spicy and rich with notes of vanilla and toffee apples. Hints of lime and cinnamon too.
Dark, rich palate. Thick with molasses and tar, and a barrage of cinnamon, golden syrup, nutmeg and charred oak.
Long, very spicy finish.

I think this rum tastes great and I can get so smashed on it. But the next day it doesn't matter if I drank 10 glasses or 2...I on the toilet with Niagara Falls out my butt every 2 hours. Horrible. I won't be buying it again. Too bad as it tastes great.
Okay so I want to start off by saying I don't like the taste of alcohol in fact I never have. I'm not a whiskey drinker or a bourbon drinker I mostly stick to beer. In fact I tried a jack and coke one time and I almost spit it out, I didn't even finish it. Well during Pirate Fest (of course duh!) this year the festival got caught in a monsoon and we all had to take shelter in our tents. My friend Tara offered me some of this stuff but told me that she only had it straight and that was how you had to drink it. She didn't have anything to cut it with so it was straight or no go. Now after being reluctant since I don't like the taste of alcohol I just went for it. I loved it and kept drinking it with my friends. Now it is strong and it has a big kick (it's 40%) but it doesn't have that super bitter "rubbing" alcohol taste. In fact it tastes sort of like spiced cider that you get during the holidays with cinnamon. I personally wouldn't ruin this rum by mixing it at all rather drinking it straight like a pirate! If you do mix it Kraken recommends Ginger Ale (they sell their own non-alcoholic ginger beer to mix it with) and that's all i would mix it with. As a guy who hates the taste of straight alcohol and only ever drinks hard stuff on special occasions like Pirate Fest or when I go out this is a great purchase. I honestly have a favorite rum.
Admittedly, I am more of a scotch/whiskey drinker myself, however I do dabble in other spirits from time to time. Personally, this is a very good rum for keeping in the back of the cabinet so to speak. Rich, sweet molasses flavor comes through with notes of oak and vanilla on the finish. It is relatively simplistic in its delivery, as there is little complexity, however it makes a good cocktail (particularly with Coke, as the spices of that cola compliment it well). It is good neat or with a few drops of water to bring out the vanilla on the palate and nose. I will also make note that age and oxidization do this rum many favors, so opening it and giving it a month or so stashed away will increase your appreciation for this spirit.
normally drink Appleton or Captain Morgan Spiced. Tried Kraken for the first time, not happy. Tasted awful. Back to Captain Morgan for me.
Title says it all. It's good mixed, better straight. The flavor is very assertive, and may come off as a bit too much for some. However, if you're the type that likes a sweeter rum, this is for you.
