Kraken Spiced Rum is an excellent example of spiced rum, with utterly brilliant packaging! This was launched in the UK in early 2010, and it has an extraordinarily rich, spicy flavour. Named for the legendary sea monster, Kraken is a blend of Caribbean rums that should certainly suit any fans of rich, navy-style rum.
Spicy and rich with notes of vanilla and toffee apples. Hints of lime and cinnamon too.
Dark, rich palate. Thick with molasses and tar, and a barrage of cinnamon, golden syrup, nutmeg and charred oak.
Long, very spicy finish.
A smooth and dark sipping rum but a little harshness and a slight "cough medicine" taste in the finish, however leaves a warming palate. A decent Autumn/Winter rum.
Goes really nicely with ginger ale and a slice of grapefruit

My new favorite spiced rum for sure. I’ve tried everything from captains to sailor j’s, cruzan to bicardi and I’ve finally settled on a new favorite. This tastes incredible For a 97% APV rum, as compared to the relatively harsh captain morgans original spiced rum such is only 45% APV or 70 proof. Kracken tastes amazing with your favorite soda (my personal favorites are Dr. P and ginger ale) or just drink it straight on ice or neat.
If you’re working your way up, it’s pretty much with Kraken that rum starts to get “good” and becomes drinkable neat. Quite velvety and smooth with minimal throat burn. This is what rum should be and this experience is not exactly common even with rarer or more premium rums.
