An exceptional expression from the Gosling's range. Family Reserve was once produced exclusively for members of the Gosling family (as the name suggest), but they have since decided to share this fantastic top quality rum from Bermuda. Each bottle is hand labelled, dipped in wax, packed into boxes, stamped, put in the post box, you'll even hand pour it into your glass... This corking rum was given a Double Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirit Competition.
Rich, creamy aromas. Hints of calves leather, dark chocolate, candied orange and spice.
Thick notes of orange marmalade and molasses, bitter dark chocolate, cooked apples and black pepper. A little cedar.
Long, oaky finish.
Definitely a smooth and perhaps more accessible run that has a lot of depth. Also low ABV by comparison to some other rums. Quite distinct to the spicier/fruitier rums of Jamaica etc.
Nice rum for the price range, not the best out there like some below says, we will leave that for caroni, Luxus and the likes on but this rum is a solid 3/5 from me.
Loved this in an old fashion - favourite one out of my rum advent calendar so far.
If i fancy a drop of dark rum, I love the odd glass of this as a change to navy rum like pussers, but be warned it has quite a sweet thick and rich caramel and toffee taste packed with flavour. I find just the odd glass is enough and wouldn't want to drink it all night, as the pleasure wanes a little after a glass or two, so it would be a waste to just gulp it down, no matter how moreish you think it is.
