Joining Foursquare's ever-impressive Exceptional Cask Selection Series, at 18 years old, Covenant is the Barbadian distillery's oldest official release to date. This single blended rum combines a selection of heavy and light marks distilled in 2004 and 2005 in Foursquare's double retort pot-still and its continuous twin column stills before maturing in American white oak bourbon barrels. Bottled at a robust 58%, without added colour or chill filtration, it's no understatement to say that this is an absolute stunner.

Intense brown sugar, sharp oak, something slightly weird, bordering on subtle funk and a definite bourbon vibe, this is akin to the ECS vintage releases, but cranked up to another level and offering a deeper richer more complex experience. Is it worth the money, and more importantly the hassle? No. It's very nice, but I would take a Papalin Haiti any day, and be very happy with that.
