A great Nicaraguan rum from Flor de Caña. Great as a mixing rum, and it makes a fantastic cocktail. It is aged in 180 litre white oak barrels, which are only used once before maturation - which gives the oak flavour more prominence.
Butterscotch, brown sugar, almond butter, dried figs and red apple.
I could taste the nail polish and oils. Gross
I thought this was one of the finest and smoothest rums I've ever tried. It much better on the rocks than mixed with anything, which I feel takes away from the flavor. You'll find yourself forgetting you're sipping on just liquor.
A very nice sipping rum. Makes me want to try the other expressions.
Flor de Caña 7 Años es Muy Suave, Dulce, Especiado y con Mucho Carácter.
Saw a cheaper Flor de Caña in Sainsbury's and liked the look of the bottle but thought i would judge their rum by something a bit higher in the range so i ordered a sample of this. First off i want to say that this is a higher quality spirit and not to take me comments too harshly. However i was disappointed. It lacks body, is very "thin" and the alcohol feels too strong for the rum itself. It almost feels like windex on the nose, and i really found myself sipping again and again looking for discernable taste , but ultimately it very much lacks flavour. I like a hearty, strong tasting rum with a medium body, this didn't satisfy me the way i want to be satisfied when drinking rum. I would rather drink an Abuelo 7 any day. It also lacks body but has lovely tastes to it. I will say that this goes down smoother and with less burn than a Havana Club 7, but i would still pick the Havana Club for it has a little bit more flavour.
