English Harbour is a rum from Antigua. This 5 year old was a Double Gold winner at the 2005 San Francisco Competition.
The nose is oaky and fruity with notes of gentle stone fruits and spice. The palate is full of orchard fruit notes, a little tropical fruit and winter spice, notes of smoke and tropical tiki cocktails. The finish is sweet and spiced.
After hearing out this from a friend and seeing it used on a tv show, I purchased a bottle. Now I love all rum, light, dark, navy, spiced etc but this is by far one of the best. Up there with Diplomatico and Pussers.
Magnificent! SO smooth. I could envision myself on a silver beach quaffing this by the pint! Very dangerous in this way...but worth risking the over-indulgence!
We found this in Duty Free at the harbour the first time we went to Antigua. Couldn't wait to return the following year to but more!! Beautiful taste and mixes well when making an authentic rum punch. Been back for a third time to Antigua and brought another two bottles home. Nectar!!
I was introduced to English Harbour rum when in Antigua recently before flying on to St Barth. to stay with my daughter. During my holiday I drank a lot of it - mainly as planters punch (rum and tropical fruits over ice. A more refreshing drink I have not found anywhere. This rum is like swallowing liquid gold - it slips down effortlessly with no tacky sweetness and so smooth with a delicious feel of pure sunshine. It doesn't make one drunk and I suffered no hangovers at all. Although UK excise duty does make it quite expensive compared to the Antigua price of just $US 17.00, It is really worth it for that special occasion.
While Island hopping and trying each of the best rums on each Island this to me tasted the smoothest and nicest by far for the money you could spend a lot more and get the same or even worse! I stocked up while in Antigua but I'm down to my last bottle and relieved I can buy from here without hassle.
