Made from rums of between 21 and 25 years of age, matured in 45 gallon oak casks, within six degrees of the equator in Guyana. El Dorado 21 was awarded a Gold at the International Rum Festival 2003 in Canada and a Silver at the 2003 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London. Most remarkably, this was the highest scoring rum ever to be tasted by the Beverage Tasting Institute in Chicago.
Buttery, with chocolatey notes of Rolos behind it. Ripe banana and fruity Christmas cake. Hints of tobacco and sandalwood, leading into spent match smokiness.
Sultanas, dates, blackcurrant and macadamia nuts. A touch of rosewater, too. The mid-palate brings dark chocolate and nutmeg too.
It just keeps going! There's fried banana and handfuls of raisin notes right through to the end, with just a little hint of spicy cinnamon.
$32.06 - $63.53
Given the price and reviews and tasting notes, I was expecting much more from this. Itr's good, but quite frankly, not THAT good. I would not buy it again.
Amazing intense nose of soft brown sugar. You then expect it to be very sweet on the palate - but it isn't. It's just gloriously rounded (but with some sweetness). Flavour goes on for ages but by then it's time for another mouthful. Needs strong self discipline to avoid drinking large amounts in one go. Fantastic rum.
Saw this in the sale and wondered should I buy? Well I already had an unopened bottle in the cupboard that I bought some time ago at a rum tasting. So I took the plunge and opened it! It really knocks the 12 and 15 out of the park. I sometimes find the younger ones a little too sweet, but this really is great for special drams!
It has a sweet scent and a soft taste. The lingering feeling full of berries. I can't believe it's this high quality at this price. I had a great time while drinking. I'm curious about the year 25.
Fantastic rum, flavours just keep coming and so smooth
