A great 12 year old Demerara rum from El Dorado. This has won golds at the Caribbean Rum Taste Test in London 7 times in the first 10 years! There are nine stills at the distillery, and this is based around coffey still rum, and double wooden pot still rum.
Sweet, toffee, vanilla, spices, oak. Hints of smoke.
Cocoa, caramel, prunes, spices, vanilla.
Long, sublimely smooth, hints of smoke on the tail.

Blind taste testing with friends vs Flora de Cana 12 yr and Matusalem 18 and Eldorado was the favourite. Will see how it fairs in next showdown, any suggestions for competition?
This was a good rum, now, this tastes sweet like many other rum liquors out there... Added sugar is the thing that comes to the fore when drinking. Better than some.
Very creamy and sugary, supprisingly refreshing finish, delicious as a drink. Yet I was disappointed when whiffing the smell from a drained glass, to discover the unmistakeable odor of sawdust. While understandable that it is stilled in wooden pots, they had not been thorough enough with cleaning the pots, which leaves a sad aftertaste and whiff.
Sweet, eminently quaffable, superb finish. Perhaps a little less complex than Mount Gay XO, but overall a better rum.
Sorry to disagree with the crowd but found this harsh - too bitter for 12yr- much prefer Cruzan single barrel or aged, Appleton 12 or Extra, or many, many others. This was a big disappointment.
