A deeply decadent addition to the Depth Charge Spiced Rum collection, this edition has been supercharged with the rich, indulgent flavour of dark chocolate to accompany its classic combo of fruits and spices. Persian lime and mandarin are joined by vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom at its core, all wrapped up with generous waves of posh, high cocoa-content dark chocolate. Add an indulgent twist to all manner of serves, from fruit-forward Tiki cocktails to boozy after-dinner coffees.
Dark chocolate thins and Fry's Chocolate Cream bars join the welcoming warmth of clove, dried orange, candied apricot, and chocolate-coated Lebkuchen.
There are layers of boozy chocolate truffles, candied fruit and nuts, cloves, and anise, leading to toasty cacao, florentines, and a touch of blackberry liqueur.
Lingering wintery spice, dark chocolate ginger biscuits, sour cherry chocolate, rum and raisin fudge.
We had a sample of this in a Master of Malt spiced rum collection. I was sad there was only one shot because I didn't want to stop drinking it, so we will be buying a full size bottle.
Chocolate flavour totally overpowered any taste powered any taste of rum whatsoever. It is the first rum I have EVER thrown away as undrinkable!
I LOVED Lucela's chocolate rum and hoped this would be the same. Unfortunately, it has too much of a deep bitter, almost medicinal aftertaste that I don't get on with. I'm trying desperately to combine it in food, including sweets like ice cream and/or tiramisu, just to find a use for the bottle. I desperatly hope that I haven't wasted £25.
On the palate this is sweet (not overly so) and chocolatey. But in the after taste it’s bitter. Very bitter. Now I suppose if you’re a massive fan of dark chocolate in the first place you will enjoy this. For me, being more of a milk chocolate type of guy, this rum is better when mixed with Coca-Cola. This is because the fizzy dark stuff makes this rum taste more chocolatey and less bitter.
I only recently discovered depth charge rums and the other bottles i've tried have been great but this variety doesn't hit the spot for me. It's not bad, it has plenty of flavour so some might love it but for me it just doesn't work.
