The first release from Scotland's Dark Matter Distillers is Dark Matter Spiced Rum - very exciting stuff! Created in Banchory by two brothers, Jim and John Ewen, Dark Matter Spiced Rum is a molasses-based rum that features full-bodied notes of long pepper, fresh ginger, green peppercorns and allspice.

Quite astounding at first - a real smack to the senses, then wonderful, full bodied warmth which flows through right to the end. I'm aware it is a rum which will divide people, given its uncompromising flavour, but am fully converted to this dreamy substance. Nothing boring about it whatsoever. Love the "sciency" packaging and branding also - my favourite sipping rum!
Was excited to try this after reading the positive reviews, however we were somewhat disappointing. There is an overpowering taste of Christmas cake, which for me ruined the drink on its own or with a mixer.
I love this so much, a kick from the ginger and cloves but worth every sip over and over and over again. It's pricey but if your into Morgans, Kracken, and Oakheart this is worth the extra few pennies.
The spice in this rum is so intense it is all you can taste. I can only taste is pepper, ginger and the burning sensation at the back of my throat. A good rum but not what those who like the Kraken, Morgans Spiced, Redleg etc. would like. Chairman's Reserve Spiced is still the best! Rob S.
Well they do say that Scotsmen and pirates have some words in common - and both would most definitely say AYE to this fine tipple. A beautiful spicy rum, incredibly smooth and of a very high quality. A new regular in my drinks cabinet and behind the bar. Well done to Scotland's newest and possibly first ever rum makers!! AYE!!
