The first release from Scotland's Dark Matter Distillers is Dark Matter Spiced Rum - very exciting stuff! Created in Banchory by two brothers, Jim and John Ewen, Dark Matter Spiced Rum is a molasses-based rum that features full-bodied notes of long pepper, fresh ginger, green peppercorns and allspice.

I was a big drinker of Kraken spiced rum until I tried Dark Matter at my local and absolutely loved it. Smooth but spicy flavour with healthy amounts of ginger, I drink it mainly with ice but makes an extremely good Dark and Stormy, which is ironically a brilliant drink for the few sunny days in Scotland. It has converted me to an enthusiastic rum drinker and I avidly await the sequel from the Ewen brothers!
The best spiced rum I've ever had! Complex, smooth and yet intense in flavour. Not for the faint-hearted. If you want to try something completely different from all other spiced rums then try this!
This is what I look for in a spiced rum; not too sweet and with a healthy kick that awakens the senses. The ginger notes are prominent, but these seem to hand over to the pepper on tasting to give a full on spiciness. I prefer to drink it straight, some may prefer it with a lump of ice...the wife has been caught adding it to her hot chocolate!!
Grrrrrrrr. Was expecting great things from these guys. Should have called it pepper and clove rum ! I am a big fan of spiced rums , and where this is not sickly sweet like many, I feel they have been a little more than heavy handed with the cloves and pepper, for this money I would have hoped for something I could have sipped, I fear coke will be its only hope of ever getting out the cubbord agin
