An intriguingly rich rum which is aptly smoky considering the name of its producers - Burning Barn. They make this expression by cold smoking their rum with local apple wood, imparting obvious campfire ember and smoked meat notes, which juxtapose handsomely with the spirit's underlying sweetness.
It's not shy about the its smoky notes. Burnt wood and crisp bacon (with a drizzle of maple syrup for good measure). Hints of caramelised fruit and chocolate hide underneath.
Intense smokey rum taste without becoming "medicinal". Good length in the mouth. No mixer required as it is perfectly drinkable on its own with a dash of water or maybe an ice cube
I like my first bottle of this rum so much, I swiftly ordered a second when it ran low. If you like Lapsang souchong tea or German Rauchbier, or tilt to the Islay end of Whiskies this rum will be right up your street. It's a smooth, sipping rum - best served neat or with a little water - with a powerful smokey flavour. Quite excellent. Unfortunately, it seems the quality control at Burning Barn is not as even as might be hoped and the second bottle didn't quite match the first so I'm holding back on the final star.
This is amazing. Neat over stones this is fantastic tipple, a real nice daily treat. This is the kind of drink you can picture your self sat by an open fire in a fine armchair sipping while the snow falls. If you are going to mix it try 1:1 with apple juice over ice. Fantastic
This is absolutely beautiful. The smoking process adds an edge to be savoured to the flavour. This is not a rum to slosh yer Coke or Dr Pepper into. This, along with a very few other rums such as Pussers Nelson's Blood or Gunpowder Strength, are to be drunk neat and with slow appreciation.
