Don Papa Small Batch Rum

A richly flavoursome rum from the Philippines, inspired by the story of Papa Isio, who played a big part in the late-19th century Philippine revolution. The rum itself is made using sugar cane grown on the island of Negros in the Philippines and matured in oak barrels before its blended and bottled.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Fruity notes up front, with sweet tangerines and apricots. This is followed by vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with runny toffee sauce.

Palate

Bags-full of vanilla and cinnamon. Hints of raisin, sultana and marmalade.

Finish

Medium length with punchy cinnamon.

Overall

Rather exciting stuff.

Mixer maybe, sipper OK occassionally

I really want to like this rum and when I first had a sip I thought it was fantastic. Bust after a couple of glasses you realise that (a) the rum base is not the best quality and (b) pineapple syrup is added later in the distillation/fermentation process so it just dominates everything else. Maybe OK in a mixer, but not as a sipper

Wonderful Rum!

I loved this Rum, extremely easy to sip but great mixed in a cocktail. Beautiful packaging too!

Like no rum I’ve had before; not in a good way

This is the first rum where I’m not going to be able to finish the bottle. In fact, I can’t even finish a glass of it. It has such a strange taste to be called a rum. Horribly sweet for my liking. I like to drink rum without a mixer. Maybe this needs a mixer of a decent rum.

Delicious Rum!

A lovely rum , packed with fruity and vanilla notes. Very smooth and well balanced. Love it neat on ice but works equally well in cocktails
