A spectacularly aged rum from Appleton Estate. This expression is made from carefully selected casks that have enjoyed a tropical maturation for a minimum of 21 years. Beautifully balanced, and with plenty of character and complex spice, this silky Jamaican rum is one to sip and savour.
Nutty and rich. Vanilla, marmalade, chocolate and pepper.
Thick, full, nutty, cocoa, stewed fruits, Demerara sugar, oak.
Long and thick.
I just wanna go back on what I said about this not having an "aged" flavour. In fact having sat down and had two glasses of this, well let's just say it's growing on me but you still get that flavour that you get only from young rums and I know it has "rums" aged up to 21 years, but it's still very prevalent in this tasty wee dram but it doesn't go out of control like a young dark rum does, its controlled by the aged molasses flavour and this finish is like that Duracell advert "it just keeps going on and on and on "- simply fantastic but I still go by what I said about "Ron Zacapa" it's the best rum I've ever tasted. All of the Ron Zacapa rums are delectable and I stand by what I've said . If you like rum or even if you don't buy a sample of Ron Zacapa and then come back here and tell us what you think ?
Defiantly a molasses rum but I'd expect nothing else from Jamaca. Over all it's a nice rum but there are better rums out there for less that taste very similar like Plantation XO from Barbados - this is almost the same rum in terms of taste and texture and it costs £46.45 compared to this but for the similar price range as this Ron Zacapa comes in @ around £40.00 and the XO is around ££80.00 ish and by the way Ron Zacapa is a 23 year old at £40.00 and you can taste the age unlike this one and it's the best tasting rum money can buy. Far more complex than this far more flavours than this and has taken on good flavour from the PX casks and American oak, you can taste that it has age and you have far more value for your money. Like the reviewer below I'm still glad I bought this tho because it's still a nice rum but I'm a bit disappointed as I could of just purchased the Plantation XO for £46.45.
Beautiful aged drop. Appleton have pulled out all the stops with this one. Waited a long while to get this...it was worth the wait.
Just picked up a bottle of this last night based on the information here and thought I'd post my impressions. I compared this rum to 3 others after picking it up; the Bacardi Reserva Limited, the Ron Zacapa 23 Solera, and the Ron Barcelo Imperial. I'm not gonna go into the nitty gritty between them all here, but the Appleton definitely stood as a unique flavor all its own. Nothing came close to that long lasting finish - you get all 21+ years. It's overall not my favorite to be really honest, but I'm glad I have it in my collection and don't regret the purchase. The bottle design, packaging and authenticity card are also nice touches if you're into all that.
Forgot to add my rating, it's a full 5 stars.
