Previously known as Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Blend, this expression from the extraordinary Jamaican rum range is truly fantastic stuff. Matured for at least a dozen years in oak casks, this expression displays a marvellous flavour profile of ripe fruit, rich chocolate, molasses and more.
Almonds and hazelnuts. Very rich and creamy. A touch of crème caramel.
Spicy, creamy palate. Digestive biscuits, guava and muscovado sugar.
Long finish with creaking oak and exotic spice.

Well worth the money,is a very rounded drink but has to be drunk on its own do not even contemplate a mixer!!!!
Balanced, easy drinking without being lightweight, round, dangerously moreish. It’s almost 40 quid and it’s cheap!
I have been a great fan of the 12 Year Old Rare Blends, considering it to be a good alternative to the 21 Year old at 20-25% of the cost. (I've not tasted the 25 year old or the Joy Spence special edition, unfortunately). I bought a couple of bottles of this and while it is certainly a good offering from Appletons, to me it doesn't taste the same, maybe more oak and not quite as smooth. Fortunately I still have a bottle of the Rare Blends. It gets 4 stars from me simply because I prefer the earlier bottling.
Delicate and smooth but rich in flavours to the point it can be enjoyed on its own as you would a single malt. Very tasty.
Absolutely amazing on its own or with coke on lots of ice. I also use this in sponge cakes. You may think it's too expensive for that but - believe me - it makes all the difference and adds that subtle hint of almonds that cheaper rums simply cannot match.
