Although this has an ABV of 54% and claims to be a rum, I would argue it's a rum based spirit drink. The taste, in my opinion, is 90% chocolate and 10% alcohol. This does not come across as a rum and I'm shocked that 1423 released it with their name on it. "Chocolate Bailey's on steroids" would be closer to the truth. This is an insult to rum and to Panama.
Perhaps not for the true rum enthusiast as this could be called a 'spiced' rum, in that it's clearly flavoured. Yes, it's rather sweet having had 28gms sugar adder per litre when 20 is the normally accepted maximum. Not a 'session rum' either, or at least, not in my book. However, as an after-dinner liqueur, it's outstanding, and very powerful, with an ABV of 54%. I do love Panamanian rums! The packaging clearly states that it's a flavoured rum spirit drink!
Oh my goodness. This is a properly chocolately rum. 54% means it's almost Navy Strength, and if you're complaining about that buy something weaker ya landlubbers! This rum is chocolately excellence, and is an amazing dessert rum. Goes well with sweet treats and cakes. My one critisim is that it's... not that dark? It's a pale amber, more like a whiskey than a dark rum. But hey! At least that means no added caramel!
There is plenty of chocolate & coffee & brown sugar sweetness all the way. Chocolate smell , taste will goes all the way to the end & after taste . Suddenly you get a beautiful heat of spice & punchy ABV .I cannot say enough ! Must try
