Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine

Ole Smoky Moonshine

Ole Smoky has been making moonshine in the Smoky Mountains ever since their ancestors settled in the area over a hundred years ago. Then, Tennessee state law changed. That enabled them to open up their first federally licensed distillery in Gatlinburg. You know that the moonshine business hasn’t always exactly been on the right side of the law... But their journey has led them to where they are now, crafting that kick-in-the-mouth moonshine folks have loved for over a century and adding flavours like Blackcurrant or Apple Pie. You could say it was totally worth it. And you’d be right.

Moonshine HERITAGE

Moonshine was born of surplus grain, mountain water, and a deep mistrust of taxmen. It became the spirit of Appalachia, made quietly in wooded hollers by the light of the moon to dodge excise men. It was high proof, occasionally high risk, and always social. A jar on the table, passed around without ceremony. Over time, the word picked up myth and mud in equal measure. Lawless hillbillies, dodgy batches, backwoods bravado. The reality also included community, craft, and survival. Illicit by law, but legitimate in culture.

Ole Smoky took that heritage and dragged it blinking into the daylight. Founded in 2010 as the first federally licensed distillery in East Tennessee, it kept the jar and the Appalachian swagger but added proper stills, quality control, and a barcode. With a small army of flavoured shines and whiskeys to its name, it proves moonshine does not have to skulk in the woods to feel authentic. Ole Smoky has taken a term once whispered and put it on a billboard, keeping the jar, the shareable spirit, and the mountain mythology intact, just with better quality control and far less chance of the sheriff knocking at the door.
