Shanky's Whip is a unique type of liqueur that combines the rich flavours of Irish whiskey with the creamy (though no actual cream) sweetness of vanilla and blackcurrant. This blend results in a distinctive and smooth taste experience. The whiskey provides a warm, complex base, while the vanilla adds sweetness and the blackcurrant introduces a tart fruitiness, creating a well-rounded and enjoyable drink. Shanky's Whip can be enjoyed on its own, over ice, or as a versatile ingredient in a variety of cocktails like an Espresso Martini or an Irish Coffee, adding a creamy, fruity twist to traditional recipes. It's a modern take on flavoured liqueurs, appealing to those who appreciate Irish whiskey but with a novel twist. Plus, the chap on the label is being pulled along by an ostrich. What's not to like?!
The initial taste is creamy vanilla and toffee followed by the richness of the high quality Irish whiskey, offering hints of oak, milk chocolate, malt, and a baking spices, with blackcurrants providing a tangy, refreshing edge.
Best thing since sliced bread, and Bailey's. If you like Bailey's, but don't want the cream, this is it. Goes well on its own in a glass with a lump of ice! I've also had it in my coffee, with a variety of mixers, and I have even poured a huge amount of it on a trifle. I love it!
Definitely room on the market for a bourbon version of spiced rum. Sadly this is not it. Horribly artificial cream soda taste. Ridiculously sweet. My expectations were low and it was even worse than I imagined.
The nose on this is very sudden, almost too much vanilla. Keep sniffing though and it turns into fresh soft serve vanilla ice cream straight from the van. The taste is much more subdued with hints of chocolate as well. Overall a lovely drink in the right time and place but just not to my taste I think.
Friday cozy..
Smells heavenly, tastes heavenly. Absolutely love the stuff.
