This festive gin liqueur is named after Reverend Hubert Bell Lester, who created his winter liqueur recipe in 1904 for the Christmas gathering of his congregation. Years later, his great-grandson recreated the original formula with a few updates and help from Joe Wadsack, who is generally thought to have the best palate in the wine business. There are Amalfi lemons and oranges, along with a few seasonal spices - this one's a winner simply over ice and will do well in a Negroni, too.
Warming and spicy, with loads of oily citrus zest, a good handful of dried fruit and peppery juniper underneath it all.
This has kept us going over Christmas. Delicious with fizz & on its own. Ran out before I could make a cocktail!
My partner and I love hot cocktails and we think there is nothing better than this. Our favourite is a punch with cranberry juice and Sherry. The winter liqueur takes it to another level. The smell is Christmas, skiing, log fires and romance. Try it. Happy Christmas

I’m not sure a get where that last two folks are coming from. Yes there’s is citrus, very high quality, which in itself is hard to do unless it’s fresh, and this drink has fantastic Christmassy spice notes of raisins, clove, cinnamon and all that. It’s as Christmassy as a mince pie, and it’s delicious warmed up in a toddy or glühwein. You don’t need much either. Count me in. If it’s too weak for you add a bit if gin I reckon. It’s not rocket science.
£34.94 for a 50cl bottle of 27% ABV liqueur, that doesn't even taste wintery? No, I do not recommend!
