Summer Fruit Cup

Ableforth's has done it again, and this time they've concocted the perfect summer quaff. It's crafted by macerating strawberries, cucumber, orange, and mint in pure wheat spirit, before re-distilling it at room temperature in a vacuum still. To this, a blend of fine wines, spirits, fruits, herbs, and spices are added, and the result is a fresh, fruity and superbly British drink.

To serve Summer Fruit Cup - Ableforth's recommends first half-filling a highball glass with ice, sliced cucumber, and orange, quartered strawberries, and a lightly bruised sprig of fresh mint. Then carefully combine one part of the delicious Summer Fruit Cup with two parts of lemonade (not three – this would lead to an excessively dilute drink suitable only for unwelcome guests), and gently add to the glass.

Ableforth's Summer Cup Royale recipe:

40ml Ableforth's Summer Fruit Cup
20ml lemon juice
15ml sugar syrup
2 dashes of orange bitters
Top up with Prosecco
Shake first four ingredients over ice, pour into highball and top up with Prosecco. Garnish with orange slice and mint sprig.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Huge depth and richness in the initial nose, spicy with notes of Caramelised Apricot, Chocolate and Marmalade. A huge secondary whack from the cold-distilled botanicals - Cucumber is the primary component, but mint, orange and sweet luscious strawberry all make an appearance.

Palate Extraordinary intensity, but made fresh and accessible by the cold-distilled botanicals. The Strawberry is particularly prominent, but the mint freshness is omnipresent.

Finish Long and luscious with the Mint, Strawberry and Orange peel bitterness continuing to shine.

Reviews for Summer Fruit Cup
Absolutely superb
This has become my favourite drink to sip in the balmy summer evenings - I make this following the Summer Cup recipe (so with prosecco, lemon juice, syrup and bitters) - it's just gorgeous.

Summer Delight
Very interesting and refreshing summer drink with lemonade added. Will add Prosecco next time.

Newer version is terrible
The new version is truly awful. The original King's Ginger was a unique and classy drink. This is weaker, less flavoursome, more expensive and in a smaller bottle. It is not a patch on the original at all. Really, really poor change

Great summer drink
The recipe on the front of the bottle is excellent.

Everyone at the BBQ loved it! Great drink. I'll be getting another bottle.

Simply made
Makes the perfect summer sling. Stronger than Pimm’s in alcohol. Works with lemonade or ginger ale. Ramp it up with slug of gin and orange bitters. Load it with loads of ice and decorate as you would A classic Pimm’s - lemon, cucumber skin, mint. Leave out the strawberry.

Perfect refreshing summer drink
I picked this up on a lark in my attempt to find a fifth dram for my tasting set, and I'm so glad I did. I really had no expectations for this, but it was the winner of the bunch! The sweet and the bitter offset by the mint really make for an outstanding drink. I'm back to order a 50cl.

Just wow !
This is the most refreshing tipple I've had yet. It was a hot summer's day and I had this fruit cup in the fridge and a bottle of lemonade also in the fridge and I took some ice and dropped it in the high ball glass added the fruit cup (to taste) the lemonade mixed it up and just wow ! This is amazing and I'm not going tell you what I can taste as I believe it's for you to discover but I will tell you the orange bitters coalescing with the sweet lemonade at the end just finishes the wonderful experience and if you want to add fruit then what I done was to use blood oranges home grown strawberries and home grown mint and cucumber and it makes a huge difference if you lightly crush and macerate the fruit together but in terms of beating this it's going to be hard especially on a hot summer's day !.
