Cherry Brandy Bottling Note

While the folk at Ableforth's enjoy using some very elaborate equipment and complicated calculations just to make their morning coffee, there are times where they like to keep it simple. As such, their spectacularly flavoursome Cherry Brandy is made using cherries and brandy - a change from most 'cherry brandies', which are made with neutral spirit and/or flavouring. Ableforth's use only the finest cherries and high-quality brandy from a rather famous region in France in their Cherry Brandy.

Ableforth's Cherry Brandy works in a number of cocktails, such as the Blood Sand and the Cherry Sour. That's why we've done the decent thing and included a couple of Ableforth's very own recipes (see videos below)...

Ableforth's Blood and Sand recipe:

25ml of Ableforth's Cherry Brandy
25ml of Scotch whisky
25ml of orange juice
25ml of sweet vermouth
Shake all ingredients over ice, strain into a chilled coupe glass, garnish with an orange zest and serve.

Ableforth's Cherry Sour recipe:

40ml of Ableforth's Cherry Brandy
25ml of lemon juice
5ml of sugar syrup
Dash of Angostura bitters
Shake all ingredients over ice, strain into ice-filled glass and top with soda. Garnish with a lemon and cherry slice and serve.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Complex bakewell notes with rich cherry, marzipan, crushed almonds and a floral edge complemented by nutmeg and cinnamon spiciness.

Palate: Bonkers mouthfeel, so unctuous and thick with that allspice and damson alongside dark cherries and fresh tannic grip.

Finish: More complex cherry goodness and spices. Christmassy.

Overall: Delicious, unctuous, original and oh so right.

Reviews for Cherry Brandy
Unpleasant
I have been using de Kuyper XO premium cherry brandy in cocktails for years, but they haven't made any this year, so I tried Ableforth's instead. I will never buy another bottle. As well as the cherry flavour, there is a herbiness that is really deeply unpleasant. I'm still on the hunt for a de Kuyper XO substitute.

Going to start giving this as a gift
Thank you WhiskySanta! I had read the description about how this was *really* made with cherries, and high quality brandy, and when it arrived we did a blind test with normal De Kuyper. This is a different drink, really gorgeous. Am back here to buy it as a gift, as I think it's something most people would love to receive, definitely special.

cherry blast
First of all let me thank Whiskysanta for this pleasant surprise! ;)

Nose: Sooooo much cherry. pre-taste this makes me expect an allmost pure, syrupy flavour. There is so much pleasant going on in this scent-bomb. something a tiiiiny bit smokey, allmost as if.. i was in a kitchen and they were cooking a crêpe suzette with cherries flambé

Palate: so thick and concentrated flavour. it's pleasant, but so sweet, so packed with cherries. very strong flavour, i just have to say it AGAIN

finish: christmassy lingering fruityness.

in conclusion, i'm a whisky drinker. i enjoy cognac/brandy, i enjoy rum, but whisky will remain a favorite. therefore, i think i'm not reeeaally the right guy to tell you how good of a cherry brandy this is. especially since this one is the first i tasted. ever.
i did actually drink a lot of sweet fruit-sugar-kind of wodka's, jenevers, midori, malibu, irish cream, apple pucker, etc, etc, etc, and, when compared to these, i must say, well this is a HEELLLL of a lot better. you won't see me drinking any of the above again, but this, at the right moment, i will certainly enjoy :) Very interesting tasting this.

Like drinking a bottle of Maraschino Cherries
Seriously. You know the juice you get in those Luxardo Cherries? It's almost identical to that, just with a lovely boozy-undertone from the brandy. Incredible, incredible drink.

Gorgeous
My dad bought the Christmas cracker set this year & at Christmas, we were all fighting over who would win the cherry brandy. I did, and boy am I glad I did. I've actually never tasted cherry brandy & now I'm hooked! It is delicious! Have bought myself a big bottle & think it will become a favourite after dinner night cap.
