This is a 7 year old grappa which was produced by Nardini, one of the oldest distilleries in Italy as part of the Selezione Bortolo Nardini range (named for their founder, Bortolo Nardini). After the pomace of Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Grigio grapes are distilled, the resulting spirit is allowed to age in barrels made with oak from Slavonia for 7 years, before being bottled at 45% ABV.
Marmalade, toasted bread, cherry, earthy vanilla pod and coconut.
I bought this bottle of Grappa over a year ago and it has now developed flavours that make me think of Mars bars. It’s a really good flavourful grappa and great for sipping neat, or just a drop or two of water.
Nardini was the first distillery to age grappa in wood, but in the last thirty years or so, other brands like Nonino and Tosalini have set the standards. No longer. The new Selezione Bortolo Nardini oak-aged line-up is a real game changer. In my view, the 7 year old variant is the finest in the range. Astonishingly good.
