Xoriguer is a classic gin from Mahon, Menorca, first made for British sailors whom were stationed on the island in the 18th century who were hankering for some gin (happens to all of us every once in a while). Rather than using a grain alcohol, Xoriguer is made from distilled wine and features juniper (obviously) as well as a secret selection of herbs which only the Pons family (the folks behind Xoriguer) could tell you what's included. It is briefly stored in casks before being bottled.
$35.48 - $72.81
I have 170 Gins in my bar, Xoriguer Mahon never fails to impress and people are always amazed to discover this wonderful gin. excellent with fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic and a slice of orange. I love to remind people that most gins on shelfs these days were all born in the past few years (new gins) but Xoriguer is over 120yrs old
I've loved this gin since my first trip to Menorca. Great with Limon or simply with tonic.
Came across this when I discovered gin about three years ago and loved it. I'm still in the process of buying and tasting new gins so have only had three or four bottles of Xoriguer in that time, the last of which has stood half empty in my drinks cupboard since last summer until last weekend, February time. And it's going to stay there now until the weather changes. It's amazing how a drink I've enjoyed in the summer has lost it's charm inside a centrally heated house in the middle of winter, when traditional London dry gins are far more refreshing. So - good gin but a summer drink for me.
I discovered this gin while living in Menorca. Our flat was a two-minute walk from the Xoriguer distillery facing the spectacular harbour of Mahón. Once you've tasted it with its fruity background notes (from its grape spirit), you won't bother with the poncey over-priced 'craft' gins which are now flooding the UK market. At the time of writing (August 2017) it is priced at around 12 very reasonable Euros per litre in Menorquín supermarkets. Pack a bottle, v carefully, in your checked-in baggage because there's been some sort of a squabble between Xoriguer and the holders of the 'duty-free' concession at Mahón airport. Instead of being available there at, ahem, a couple of Euros more than the 'duty-paid' price in the local supermarket, it has disappeared altogether. Enquiring from a po-faced cashier at the airport, I was informed that the absence of the product was due to a shortage of bottles. This seems to apply only to the airport outlet. Funny, that ...
Extremely refreshing. Nuances of other ingredients with the juniper. Great aroma.
