Consider yourself a bit of an explorer when it comes to the big, wide world of gin? Well then, you'll want to explore a limited edition expression from the Lakes Distillery in Cumbria! The Lakes Gin Explorer Edition is made using a base of English wheat spirit, alongside a selection of 15 botanicals, including 5 botanicals which are native to the Lake District National Park (it's also got Cumbrian juniper!). The ABV has been bumped up to 47.1% ABV, too. Fantastic in a G&T - you'll want to garnish it with a good wedge of fresh pink grapefruit...
Earthy juniper notes rise from the glass, supported by subtle wafts of floral angelica and fresh lemon zest.
Still fragrant and floral as it open, shortly followed by a kick of peppercorn and caraway. Bright, vibrant juniper at the core, supported by more citrus.
Lingering hints of crushed coriander seed, liquorice root and dried orange peel.
$32.09 - $66.30
My friend bought this and I got us some Fever-Tree Premium Tonic to go with it. I added some fresh lemon juice to mine. The overwhelming taste that came through for me was just a sugary sweetness. Nothing really on the botanicals. If you like a sweet gin this might be right for you. I prefer less sweetness and some herb and spice botanicals. A light tonic or maybe even just soda and fresh citrus might balance this better. Personally, not the right gin for me.
Too subtle for me - I prefer a stronger flavour
Stunning Gin! The BEST gin I have ever come across - already onto my third bottle
