    Japanese Gin

Japanese Gin! Well, sort of. It's made in Cambridge, so it's technically English. However, it's a Japanese Gin at heart as it's made using traditional Japanese ingredients, including Shiso (a type of herb used for seasoning and as a plate for wasabi), Sansho (a spice with earthy qualities) and Yuzu (which has a similar flavour profile to lemon zest). It also features cucumber and sesame seeds, both frequently used in Japanese cooking, as well as the vital juniper berry. The result is a unique, elegant gin with some rather exciting heated notes appearing mid-palate.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Aromatic pepper, zesty citrus and a soft vegetal note of cucumber. A bit of fresh ginger, too.

    Palate

Drying spiciness at first, soon balanced once again by clean cucumber notes. Perhaps a touch of fresh peppermint.

    Finish

Lemon pith and earthy/spicy juniper last.

    Excellent

Heard a lot about this gin, and it definitely lives up to expectation. Well worth the price. Elegant and complex, crisp and refreshing.

A really great gin, very interesting because the nose is actually (in my opinion) really bad, it smells like really powerful and rough stuff but taste it and wow, soft, lightly sweet with the sesame coming through at the back. Really nice.

    Umami Deliciousness

Familiar yet exotic. The base note of juniper lasts throughout, but the herbaceous shiso is unlike anything else on the market. Lovely peppery spice from the sansho too. My preference is a super dry martini, shaken with a piece of apple in the glass then strained (not my own recipe, but a good recommendation nonetheless!)
