In celebration of World Gin Day (which is happening on Saturday 8th June!), That Boutique-y Gin Company and World Gin Day's head honcho Gin Monkey have teamed up on a limited edition, globetrotting release! Their 7 Continents Gin has been made with one botanical sourced from each of the world's seven continents. This includes Juniper from Europe, Liquorice Root from Africa, Cinnamon from Asia, Coriander from Australia, Angelica Root from North American and Lime from South America.
All of those were fairly trivial to source. It got a little tricky for the team when it came to getting their hands on a botanical from Antarctica. You see, very few things grow in Antarctica (apart from ice, obviously), and whatever is grown there is restricted from being removed by the Antarctic Treaty of 1959. However, currents of water can freely leave the continent, so they were able to source sea salt harvested from currents of water originating in the Antarctic Ocean - a tiny pinch of it is added to the gin post-distillation. Explore the entire world of botanicals in just one sip with 7 Continents Gin!
Soft coriander and liquorice root herbaceous notes at first, before sweetness of lime develops - almost Key Lime Pie-esque!
Cinnamon heat as it opens. Rounded juniper takes shape, helped along by earthy angelica. An intriguing touch of mineral-y sea salt begins to appear later on.
Clear influence from the salt, balanced by juicy lime and drying cinnamon.
The label is a bit wishy-washy, but the gin inside is lovely. Will be picking up another bottle in time for June.
I love a martini, two at the most. Three I'm after the table, four I'm under the host. Keep it simple with an olive to bring out the slight salinity.
Love this gin. So much depth and so many flavours. Fabulous with aromatic tonic, slice of orange and star anaise
The label is awful, hopefully not the gin.
Is there a more perfect gin to celebrate this amazing day?
