Salcombe Gin is produced in a 450 litre Arnold Holstein still charmingly named Provident, and made with thirteen botanicals including Macedonian juniper, fresh lemon, lime and red grapefruit peels, cardamom, liquorice, cinnamon bark, chamomile, coriander seeds and cubeb berries. The inspiration for the gin comes from the Salcombe 'fruiters' that brought exotic fruit into Devon from the Azores, West Indies and Mediterranean in the 19th century. Water sourced from Dartmoor is used to bring it down to 44%.
Fun fact: Salcombe is one of the few distilleries in the world accessible by boat!
Citrus and floral aromas and flavours work in harmony with the heady, earthy and resinous pine notes of Macedonian juniper, selected for their high limonene content, combined with the warming spiced citrus notes from English coriander seeds. Cubeb berries from Java provide fruity peppery heat balanced with warming spice from cinnamon bark.
On a wet day in Lyme Regis about 5 years ago, we went to a gin tasting. We tasted maybe 10 or 12 and this was our favourite. It’s smooth and flavoursome, you can really taste the botanicals and a touch of citrus. I’ve rarely drunk any other gin since the tasting. With ice, lime and some Fever Tree tonic, it’s one of my absolute favourite drinks! Highly recommended.
The BEST G&T gin ever! So moresih and smooth. A timeless gin!
A Very refreshing gin brewed in my home County Of Devon Gave this to friends of mine who live in Hampshire & Surrey They really loved it so much I sent them more Serve with grapefruit or slice of lime ice & good tonic water You’ll be very surprised with excellent taste & Lovingly made in salcombe Devon
I normally drink Tarquins but I recently bought this to try something new. So glad I did, flavours are really well balanced and adding a slice of grapefruit as suggested makes a perfect G&T!
I got this and mermaid gin this is far superior. A lovely tasting gin
