Salcombe Gin is produced in a 450 litre Arnold Holstein still charmingly named Provident, and made with thirteen botanicals including Macedonian juniper, fresh lemon, lime and red grapefruit peels, cardamom, liquorice, cinnamon bark, chamomile, coriander seeds and cubeb berries. The inspiration for the gin comes from the Salcombe 'fruiters' that brought exotic fruit into Devon from the Azores, West Indies and Mediterranean in the 19th century. Water sourced from Dartmoor is used to bring it down to 44%.
Fun fact: Salcombe is one of the few distilleries in the world accessible by boat!
Citrus and floral aromas and flavours work in harmony with the heady, earthy and resinous pine notes of Macedonian juniper, selected for their high limonene content, combined with the warming spiced citrus notes from English coriander seeds. Cubeb berries from Java provide fruity peppery heat balanced with warming spice from cinnamon bark.
Simply put this is one of the best gins I have ever tried. The flavour profile is spot on and manages to balance a decent hit of juniper with tangy citrus, warming spices and fresh floral notes. This is a mainstay in my collection and one I keep going back to. Incredibly smooth and refreshing at the same time.
I was introduced to Salcombe Gin's Start Point 3 years ago and despite trying so many other gins, this is my all time favourite. It's really balanced, super smooth and citrusy, especially when served with red grapefruit. I've tried their other gins, (all of which are really tasty) but this one is a classic!
Tried this last week and was slightly disappointed given the reviews. The taste was sharp which was a let down. I shouldn't have tried a new gin and stayed with my go to wicked wolf.
A lovely, smooth, easy drinking gin. I found like the Rose version the more I drank it the more I enjoyed it.
This is a fanatic gin, very smooth but with loads of flavour. I had it with full fat tonic and the gin came through really well and was not washed out. This is going to be my go to gin this summer that's for sure.
