Dr. Squid Gin comes to us from the Pocketful of Stones Distillery in Penzance, which was made using a recipe that features real, no-foolin' squid ink! We squid you not! A rather savoury expression, with a coastal feeling to it, along with a few touches of citrus and spice. If that wasn't cool enough, it also turns bright pink when you mix it with tonic! It comes in a copper flask, engraved with all sorts of flora and fauna. It also looks like the eponymous Dr. Squid is on the label...
Savoury kitchen herbs, balanced by fresh lemon zest and meadowsweet.
Citrus sits at the core, with woody juniper following. Subtly floral at points, and a touch of sea breeze sneaks in later on.
Spring blossom and pine.
Love this gin, great with fever-tree Mediterranean tonic, a slice of lime and ice. I can taste notes of liquorice. The squid ink gives it a greyish colour, which turns soft lilac when tonic added. Comes in a beautifully copper can.
I don’t tend to leave reviews, but I’m here to buy another bottle after my son gave me one as a Christmas present. This was absolutely exceptional, the flask, the colour change and the gin! It very much made our Christmas Day and would recommend to anyone.
A pleasant fresh tasting gin. An aesthetic bottle, very unique. How ever for it is very badly designed for pouring! Which obviously needs to happen when you would like a tipple. Sadly 30% on the kitchen side, 70% in the glass. Ok ? Just read review further down the page. POUR OUT OF THE BOTTLE BACKWARDS! Of course! It did the trick though. I don’t believe I’ve been made to feel stupid by a gin ? Needs to be noted on a tag or a spout provided.
Reading the other reviews, I’m not sure I can have bought the same gin. I like gin, and I’ve tried many different varieties: this was honestly the most revolting I’ve ever had by quite a stretch. It looks like meths. It tastes like meths. I suspect it might be meths. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, perhaps my bottle was tainted somehow. Because I find it hard to believe that anyone would deliberately make a product taste - and smell - this way. It’s deeply unpleasant: bitter with a strong chemically odour. Neither my partner nor I could finish our drink. The rest I may use to clear the drains. Packaging is beautiful, and the colour-changing is novel, but neither of those factors is worth either the taste experience or the price.
This gin is truly great - it has an amazing flavour profile, comes in a beautiful copper flask, and has a really cool colour changing effect. Do yourself a favour and order a bottle of it stat! Would be an amazing Xmas gift as well.
