    Plymouth English Gin

A long-standing favourite tipple, Plymouth Gin was one of the few gins to have a geographic indication, obviously pertaining to its eponymous city. However, Plymouth Gin lost this indication in 2015, although it is still of course produced in the city. This is the original gin from the distillery, crafted from seven botanicals in a pot still with a rather short neck, and is blended with Dartmoor water. It is then bottled into the classic ‘shaving bottle’, with its distinctive green glass.

    A great gin.

I have tried Tangueray 10, Monkey 47, Hendricks, Tangueray, Bombay, and a couple of Beefeaters. I like this the best for my Gin and Tonics. Sorry Tangueray 10, which was my old favorite. Gotta go with the Fevertree when making a gin and tonic.

    State-of-the-art

Plymouth is the best mainstream gin, bar none. It's for true gin drinkers, those of us who love classic gin's bite, prominent juniper flavor, and perfect balance between a stringent citrusy beginning and smooth, deep-lasting finish. If you want a softer, more floral gin, go for Hendricks or (the best of them), The Botanist. I think of these as feminine gins, which is not to be derogatory, but simply to say that they're not, in my book, the real thing. The best of the transitional gins - somewhere between classic and floral - is Tanqueray Ten. A less expensive gin in the Plymouth camp and a very fine one is Boodles. But the state-of-the-art is Plymouth.

    Absolutely super

With Dolin Dry Vermouth for me the best Martini I ever had. Juniper but not too much, smooth and citrus.

    Light & Citrus Taste

After going astray from the core gin types and looking for some strong 'punchy' gins with individual flavours (Dodds / Berkeley Square / Ophir to name a few) I found that that coming back to this fine citrus & juniper gin is actually quite refreshing as it is not trying too hard to be different. It depicts what a gin should stand for. I like it.
