Jawbox Gin comes to us from the Ards Peninsula, on the north-east coast of Northern Ireland. This small batch gin is made with a combination of 11 botanicals, including juniper, lemon, cubeb, angelica, coriander, cassia, orris root, grains of paradise, cardamom, liquorice root and Black Mountain heather. The distillers recommend trying this with ginger ale and a squeeze of lime.
Peppery juniper starts it off, followed by fragrant angelica and citrus. Fresh pine begins to grow as it develops, with cardamom adding a hint of spice.
£3.80 - £22.99
Jawbox has a taste of its own not unlike the honeycomb many of us Belfastians sometimes add to it. A bit pricey but good quality.
A nic pr gin for sure but the balance of flavours in a G&T just aren’t there. If you want sweet it’s grand otherwise look to other Irish Gin such as Shortcross and Dingle much better in my opinion
I noticed that this won Best Gin in the UK recently so I bought a bottle to try. It was great - a very traditional style gin but really well balanced. It mentioned on the website to drink with Ginger Ale and what a revelation it was. Forget the tonic, its Jawbox and Ginger Ale for me.
Sweet enough to drink with a little ice and no mixer
Having created the gin and honeycomb serve I’m amazed by the response it’s had. I’m chuffed that it has become the Marmite of my generation. Really chuffed. More so, because I think the likes outweigh the dislikes. So homegrown, local and proud of its heritage. Don’t have honeycomb? Well apparently the chocolate removed from a crunchie holds its weight... I love this gin though and couldn’t be more proud to have represented. With honeycomb or without. It’s still a nice clean taste.
