With a tagline like "Swedish Excellence", we were expecting big things from this Hernö Gin. Then we did some more research and discovered Hernö won the most awards at the Gin Masters 2013 - our expectations went up even higher, to the point where we could see Sweden from our office! They're just lucky the gin matched those expectations, because we now know where they live...
It certainly came from the north, as the smell of pine trees bursts out of the bottle. A sweet juniper and spicy coriander balance out the mix.
Slightly muted vanilla, allowing the herbs take the limelight (by limelight, we mean there is also some nice citrus too).
An absolute blast. This is a perfect introduction for Swedish gin to make. It's like it turned up at your door with flowers, chocolates and a fancy hat.
£6.19 - £38.95
This is my ultimate gin and if I could only have one bottle in my cupboard it would be this one. The delicious taste of vanilla and lingonberries are ones to savour as you slowly sip it neat or in a G&T. My G&T is made with a generous double of Hernö, 1724 tonic and a couple of slices of lime. Hernö Old Tom and Navy Strength are also worth adding to your collection, even, if like me, you are not a fan of other navy strength gins. Hernö NS is extremely smooth and not harsh whilst the Old Tom is a little sweeter but not too sweet. It has my rating of 1 - a desert island gin! The Gin Penguin
There is a very good reason that this Gin has won so many prices! Love it!
My favourite gin by a long shot.
I expected this would be a top gin. But that was before I tasted it. It should be good, because it's not cheap. and I'd not read anything bad about Herno or this particular gin. It has a strong flavour but not a nice taste, like there's some old fashioned cough cure mixed with it. No wonder the botanicals are not shown on the label ! Maybe it will grow on me but somehow, I doubt it.
The taste is so clean and fresh, and the different tastes blend so well together! GT is my favourite drink and I always ask bartenders to mix their best GT. My favourite is without doubt Hernö gin, Fentiman´s tonic, cucumber and lemon for garnish, and topped with freshly grinded black pepper.
