Millions of fresh table grapes (the kind that get eaten, not the kind that get turned in to wine) are wasted globally every year. Obviously, that's loads of grapes. So, Foxhole Spirits decided to do something about it and created HYKE Gin, made from a base spirit using surplus table grapes, which was fittingly released on Global Recycling Day. The botanicals used are inspired by the grapes’ African and South American origins, including coriander, myrrh and rooibos. This delicate gin would be fab in a Martini.
A lively, aromatic nose begins with plenty of rich baking spice, an underlying forest-air-freshness and a touch of flint. Warming citrus notes are present throughout, with soft aniseed, floral vanilla and piney juniper in support.
A full and silky palate begins with delicate juniper, a touch of liquorice and a little pink grapefruit bitterness. Earthy spice flickers away underneath, among plenty of fragrant cardamom and menthol herbaceousness.
The finish is long and peppered with dry, spicy citrus.
