This limited edition Liquorice Root Gin from Northern Fox was created with Yorkshire Pontefract Cakes in mind, which are, in fact, not a cake. They're not even anywhere near a cake, as they're actually a small black sweet made solely of liquorice. Apart from liquorice root, there are only two other botanicals in this gin. If you like liquorice, then this one's for you! It works pretty well with ginger beer, too.
Super liquorice-y, with just a slight undertone of juniper alongside. But mostly liquorice.
I first bought this gin at John Lewis before Christmas and met Aimee while they were doing a pop up shop there. Childhood memories in a glass. My husband loves to sip this slowly the liquorice Root Flavour builds on each taste. I like to drink as they suggest with Ginger beer. Proper Liquorice Root flavours.
You have to take your time with this gin...sip it and savour the earthy liquorice root flavour that appears several several seconds later. I've sampled it with lemonade and also ginger ale. Personally I prefer lemonade as I feel it let's more flavour come through but I enjoyed ginger ale as well. Takes me back as a child chewing the liquorice roots!
Brought as a Xmas present for relative. Disappointed in lack of liquorice flavour in the gin. Just tasted like a normal gin.
Wow. If you like The old school Liquorice Root this is a must try. The flavour really lasts with the real liquorice root coming through at the end. I tried it with the ginger beer and I was not disappointed. I also found out this is he only Liquorice Root gin in the UK. Will be buying more for sure.
If you love Liquorice like me then this gin is for you. Amazing with ginger beer as you get the fire first then the lingering liquorice sweetness. A must try!!!!
