This gin right here is Batch #4 of Dornoch's Experimental Batches series, all of which are made at the Scottish distillery using organic floor malted Odyssey barley - Philip and Simon Thompson (the chaps behind the distillery) are dedicated to making their tipples without the use of neutral grain spirit! Batch #4 shows off the character of the gin excellently as it features a very low botanical content - 10 grams per litre charged (many producers use around 35-40 grams per litre charged!). As such, this might not make the best gin for mixing with tonic, but does go well with ginger beer.
Malty and subtly nutty. Brazil nuts? Macadamia nuts? One of those. Continues with a whiff of juniper and caramelised orange.
Plenty of cardamom and peppery juniper bite to it. Quite genever-like as it develops, with a hint of fruity sweetness.
Soft digestive biscuit, fennel seeds and a hint of violet petal.
This is a real whisky lover’s gin. Fully of cardamom and white chocolate. Big fan.
Worst gin I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve tasted a few) makes it worse that it’s so expensive for just a half a litre. They should be giving it away! Tasted like tequila - ie throw it down with salt and lemon so you don’t actually taste how disgusting it is.
