Aviation Gin

Please note: bottles may have original black label, or the special edition Wrexham AFC label (the Welsh football club that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney own!)
Aviation gin is a brand of gin brought to fame by Ryan Reynolds. it is distilled in small batches in Portland, Oregon.
Aviation Gin was founded in 2006 and takes its name from the Aviation cocktail, which was created in the 1900s. The gin takes a Dutch-style rye spirit base combined with juniper, lavender, anise, sarsaparilla, orange peel and cardamom. The botanicals are steeped in grain spirit for 48 hours before they are redistilled.
Aviation is one of the most popular gins on the market, and it has won numerous awards, including a gold medal at the San Francisco world spirits competition.
Aviation Gin is an intriguing tipple, with a very handsome Gatsby-esque bottle. A fabulous gin to go with its eponymous cocktail, though we wouldn't suggest you wing it. (Geddit?)
Aviation gin was founded by Ryan Reynolds and his business partner, Michael Howard. The two had been friends for years, and they shared a passion for aviation (the cocktail and the activity) and gin. they decided to combine their interests and create a gin that would be perfect for aviation enthusiasts. Aviator Gin, if you like.
Crisp notes of juniper alongside delicate floral sweetness, parma violets, a touch of citrus peel and some green vegetal notes in there too, with a pinch of spice.
Wonderfully spicy notes, more prominent than on the nose, cardamom shining through and a scattering of cinnamon, with floral notes continuing.
Spices linger, along with the return of citrus peel.

Ryan Reynolds acquired an ownership interest in Aviation Gin earlier this year. He has recently been quoted as saying the following: "The reason some people don't drink gin is that strong juniper taste. So, after apologizing to each berry individually, we beat the living hell out of them," Reynolds says. "To ensure that heavenly taste, every bottle of Aviation is ordained by the Unitarian Church of Fresno, California. And then, before it departs home, serenaded by the healing music of Sarah McLachlan." The description states it’s the most intense juniper flavor you’ll ever experience yet reviews state other wise... Mr Reynolds drinks his on the rocks apparently - can’t waiy to try it!!
I love gin. Dry martinis, gin and tonics and Negronis. I have also discovered after a great deal of trial and error and gin buying in Irish and English airports that I really just fancy London dry gin. That said, I have enjoyed many "modern" gins and ancient non dry gins such as old tom. A friend of mine is an investor in this company and I received this bottle gratis. I have say, it tastes OK in martinis, but tastes disgusting in gin and tonics - strangely.
Unexpected flavour. With a tonic, I really get the sarsaparilla coming through. Hints of root beer. I like it but its possible the least conventional gin I've had in awhile.
I tested all the premium gins on board a cruise ship. Aviation was the best in a Gin and Tonic. I had not seen the brand previously.
A great gin, for people who don't like gin. I love the aura behind it, but it just doesn't taste great to me. To each their own.
