A special edition from the City of London Distillery, created in collaboration with Tom Nichol, the retiring Tanqueray Master Distiller. The gin uses juniper, coriander, angelica root, liquorice and sweet orange and is named after Christopher Wren, who is of course best known for his work on St. Paul's Cathedral (which has always featured on COLD's gin labels). The new bottle shape takes inspiration from the cathedral dome, and also looks a bit like a juicer too (or a bottle of erm, Tanqueray, actually). Made in batches of 200 bottles.
Proof that just a small number of botanicals (five, in this case) can produce a tremendous gin.
Well rounded with classic pine notes, fragrant citrus and earthy creaminess.
Juniper is front and centre with sweet, sticky orange and liquorice depth.
All that's gone before comes together on the finish, fantastic stuff.
Described as a "cocktail gin", we can see this working well in all situations. An excellent collaboration.
Has a great depth of flavour and a good kick. Slightly sweeter than some. It is hard to pick out the orange or the liquorice, it all goes so well together in an unmistakably good smooth gin. Fantastic with even a cheapo tonic.
Loved it!
Lovely rounded smooth gin with the botanicals there but not intrusive, for me not in a cocktail but just with a piece of lemon infused ice!
A nice gin in a nice bottle, would rather have two bottles of Bulldog and the change.
One of my top London Dry gins. Very smooth.
