This London Dry Gin, repackaged and rejuvenated under new ownership in 2013, takes its name from Boodle's gentleman’s club in St. James's, London and is now produced at the Greenalls distillery.
Famous members of Boodle's gentleman’s club included former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming, which of course makes Boodles an obvious choice for a Vesper.
Churchill also enjoyed gin however and Boodles may have been his favourite brand. I read a story the other day of how Winston added so little vermouth to his Gin Martinis that sometimes a mere glance in the direction of France would suffice!
I had read about Boodles Gin in books for many years but had never seen it for sale in our liquor stores. Then this past Christmas (2018), there it was on the shelf of my local LCBO. I immediately purchased a bottle putting my usual Beefeater Gin back on the shelf, and after having my first taste I knew that it would be my gin of choice in the future. My dad introduced me to Beefeater martini's when I was 18 (shhh, he was not supposed to do that until I was 21) and I had made them his way ever since (I am 76 at this time), but I am now making them only with Boodles gin which I find to be a much smoother gin than any I have tasted before. Btw, I live in Ontario, Canada
I drink a lot of martinis––better phrased I drink a martini or two most cocktail hours (6:1). I have tried most of the major and some minor gins. I keep coming back to Boodles. Some distillers try to stuff too many herbs and flowers in their gin; some filter it so it is too "clean". Boodles is the right combination for me. If I were on a desert island I'd wish for a case of Boodles to wash up on the beach.
I am not much of a drinker, but after trying a few other brands of gin, not liking them, my husband came home with Boodles. I really like it, and have gotten several other people on to it. Very smooth, and does not give me headaches. Love my Gin and Tonics, slice of lime. Mmmmm.
I love Boodles Gin! I never thought I would be gin person BUT I had a Vesper at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, Gin, Vodka, Lillet Blanc and a dash of bitters. Absolutely the best, sexiest martini ever!! When I got home I wanted to make a cocktail with similar ingredients and this is what I have come up with: four ice cubes, 1.5 parts of Boodles Gin, .5 parts St.Germain, .75 parts Lillet Blanc, topped with soda and a piece of lemon peel. Just lovely!!
That best! My favorite brand of gin always
