This London Dry Gin, repackaged and rejuvenated under new ownership in 2013, takes its name from Boodle's gentleman’s club in St. James's, London and is now produced at the Greenalls distillery.
Famous members of Boodle's gentleman’s club included former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming, which of course makes Boodles an obvious choice for a Vesper.
Churchill also enjoyed gin however and Boodles may have been his favourite brand. I read a story the other day of how Winston added so little vermouth to his Gin Martinis that sometimes a mere glance in the direction of France would suffice!
I never really liked gin until I accidentally tried Boodles. Love it.
Canada stopped importing Boodles Gin over 25 years ago. Recently I found it on the market again. It was just as smooth and delicious as I remembered. I am so happy to have it back!!
In Canada it's also 90.4 proof (not sure why it's 80 in the UK...) but nevertheless it's not your average Bombay Sapphire. It's almost slippery. Best in martinis in my opinion (or with tonic; no ice, no slice.)
fucking delicious. Strong. 90 proof.
I've been enjoying (straight, a tad of ice only please ) this gin for so many years I cannot count so high. My husband tried to fool me with refilling the bottle, but there is no substitute. I really prefer the old bottle design, but I'll try "slumping" the new shape in a kiln and I'll bet it will make great snack dishes and spoon rests. A new business perhaps? Great gin and with an open mind I've tried many. Hendricks is also very fine as is The Botanist, but both have such unique perfume I save them for a change of pace.
