This London Dry Gin, repackaged and rejuvenated under new ownership in 2013, takes its name from Boodle's gentleman’s club in St. James's, London and is now produced at the Greenalls distillery.
Famous members of Boodle's gentleman’s club included former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming, which of course makes Boodles an obvious choice for a Vesper.
Churchill also enjoyed gin however and Boodles may have been his favourite brand. I read a story the other day of how Winston added so little vermouth to his Gin Martinis that sometimes a mere glance in the direction of France would suffice!
I first tried Boodles gin in 1979 as an alternative to Tanquery. while I still enjoy Tanquery , I feel that Boodles is a better gin. I understand that one's gin preference is purely subjective, but I strongly encourage anyone who has not tasted this gin to do so. This is a very smooth gin, perhaps a stealth gin. Take the time to savour its flavor and imbibe carefully. During the fall and winter holiday season, add a splash of cranberry juice cocktail to a G+T. Try it, you'll like it! Skol!
Well this little beauty caught me by surprise. What a fantastic gin. Good enough just over ice or with F/T. Holding court with the more expensive gins in my collection. Acker rating 5/5
Like the old bottle design, but would buy in a "milk bottle". Light on the ice...nothing added to pollute the great taste!!!
OMG! This makes the best martini. And like Sir Winnie, I like it VERY dry. So much more flavour. What a treat to find in Canada. Can't wait for summer to try it in a G&T on a hot afternoon.
Generally drink rye in our cold winter months, read John D McDonald novels with Travis McGee as the hero! BIG fan of Boodles, I kick it back a notch with a splash of soda water, lots of ice and a dash of bitters, cheers, from the colonies
