Mooiplaas Wine Estate and Private Nature Reserve is in the Stellenbosch Winelands. This historic working wine farm is surrounded by mountains and valleys. The vineyards are on the steep Bottelary Hills and offer stunning views of Cape Town from high points.

The Estate's Character

The estate is in the Bottelary Hills. It has a big change in height and offers wide views of the Cape Peninsula. The top point, 370 meters above sea level, has a view from False Bay to Table Bay.

Vineyards and Nature

The vineyards use eco-friendly ways. Tielman Roos knows the land well. The different landscapes create varied climates. This is important for choosing the right grape and rootstock for each area. The soil, with old Cape Granite, helps make unique grapes.

Mooiplaas covers 243 hectares, with 100 hectares of vineyards and 70 hectares as a nature reserve.

The Cellar Philosophy

Louis Roos, the cellar master, likes traditional wine-making. He uses old methods like natural yeast and fermentation and avoids strong filtration. He prefers ageing wines in small oak barrels.

Louis thinks the best wines come from little interference. This way, the natural quality of the grapes stands out. He aims for wines that are true, elegant, and full of life.

Mooiplaas wines are modern and can be enjoyed with others or alone. They celebrate life.

The Range

- The Bean has a deep purple colour, with dark mocha and coffee bean scents, and smooth tannins.

- The Coco mixes cherry with mocha/dark chocolate, making a complex yet friendly taste.

- The Shiraz is juicy and ripe, with cherry and black cassis, and a soft, sweet taste.

- The Lemongrass, made with Sauvignon Blanc, has tropical and green fig tastes, with lively acidity and minerality.

- The Peach, golden in colour, blends ripe peach and Chenin blanc, ending with a honeyed peach taste.

- The Strawberry, a Pinotage rosé, has a fresh strawberry aroma, firm acidity, and a clean, lively end, great for summer.
