Rockburn derives its name from the rugged terrain of Central Otago, celebrated for its dramatic mountain ranges and scenic lakes. The vineyard began as Richard Bunton's passion project in 1991, when he planted three hectares of vines in what was then the largely uncharted grape-growing area of Central Otago, the southernmost wine region in the world.
By 2005, Rockburn had expanded its vineyard operations, and Malcolm Rees-Francis came on board as the head winemaker after previously serving as the assistant winemaker at Felton Road. Today, Rockburn stands as a top producer of pinot noir in New Zealand. Malcolm has earned the title of Young Antipodean Winemaker of the Year and has consistently produced award-winning wines.
